Wall-Mounted Silicone Shower Caddy Designed for Injection Molding

Original silicone shower caddy developed in SolidWorks for an Australian bath and body brand, with storage, drainage and injection-molding considerations. Deliverables included concept renders and STEP files.

Project Overview

Designed an original wall-mounted silicone shower caddy for an Australian bath and body brand. Developed in SolidWorks, the concept combines upright bottle storage, a front pocket for smaller shower items, textured ribs for grip and drainage, rounded edges and integrated branding.

Design Challenge

The brief combined practical shower storage with an original branded consumer product. Upright bottle storage and a front pocket needed to sit within a coherent wall-mounted form, with grip, drainage and rounded edges considered as part of the same design.

The product also needed CAD geometry developed with silicone injection molding in mind, connecting the concept appearance to a usable engineering handoff.

Engineering Approach

I developed the concept in SolidWorks, bringing together the upright back panel, storage pocket, rib pattern, drainage openings and integrated branding. The supplied CAD views show the product form from the front and in perspective; the concept visualization presents its intended shower context.

Product development and DFM were considered together through practical wall thicknesses, draft angles and smooth transitions rather than leaving manufacturing considerations separate from the form.

Key Design Considerations

  • Storage: upright bottle storage with a front pocket for smaller shower items.
  • Grip and drainage: textured ribs and drainage openings incorporated into the product geometry.
  • Rounded edges: smooth, rounded edges developed with child safety in mind; no safety certification is claimed.
  • Brand integration: branding incorporated directly into the product form.
  • Consumer-product appearance: a coordinated rib pattern and smooth transitions across the back panel and pocket.

Manufacturing / DFM Considerations

The SolidWorks concept was developed with consideration for silicone injection molding. The design addressed practical wall thicknesses, draft angles, drainage openings and smooth transitions, with tooling-ready geometry as part of the handoff.

This describes the CAD design scope. Tool manufacture, molding trials and production results are not documented in this case study.

Deliverables

  • Concept renders: visual communication of the original product and its intended use.
  • STEP files: neutral CAD geometry for the design handoff.
